The summer of 1999

A plane was hijacked
And hostages were traded
And we let go off a very dangerous man
Who had been captured by our forces
After a fierce encounter

This in a year
When on the icy heights of Kargil
Young boys became men
Fighting an uphill battle
Securing the ridges
Keeping our honour and integrity

That December negotiation was hard to digest
After what our officers and men had negotiated
In that summer of 1999

By all means, celebrate the victory
But the tributes you give today are meaningless
Until
You become the citizen worth fighting for
Until
You put the nation first
Each time, every time
